A Million People March, the event last August 26, 2013, has enormously spread in social media like Facebook and Twitter. Prior to that, all of the plans and sentiments started from a social networking site. Although President Benigno Aquino III reformed the Priority Assistant Development Fund (PDAF), others said that he only renamed it, the ‘concerned individuals’ still pushed through the said protest. People were bragging about the misused fund which prominent persons are involved. Ironic as it is, few members of senate are involved. The event was expected to start at around 9 in the morning. According to Bayan Secretary General Renato Reyes, Jr., "Today is National Heroes Day. We march from the Bonifacio Monument in Liwasan, to the Rizal Monument in Luneta, to the Don Chino Roces Monument in Mendiola...The people’s protest is directed at (President) Aquino who has chosen to retain pork under a new name, despite the clamor for its abolition." Some groups wanted to rechannel the presidential pork in order for the funds to be used in a more productive way. People arranged themselves in the way they wanted. There was no formal organizer. The event itself moved its way o obtaining its goal - To abolish the pork barrel. They have their own unique ways in expressing their stand on the issue. Some sang, some are watchers, some created caricatures and paper maches and some didn't know what was happening that Monday morning. Through their special and different modes of uttering their opinions and side, the whole event itself was solidarity - they share the same goal. Nonetheless, Filipinos including non-Filipino citizen joined the event. Cyclists and protestants were everywhere, with their famous chant, "Wag magbaboy, makibaka." May it be an elder or a child, a priest or a photographer who just wanted to take a scoop of the said event, an individual of any citizenship or just a mere person who happened to pass by - it is not the issue who came into the event. It is the people's burning desire to abolish pork barrel. These concerned individuals made use of their talent and creativity in a very satirical manner - or so it seems. Students, party list groups, professors, photographers, protestants, television personalities, reporters and politicians. Late afternoon, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Renato Corona came and was welcomed with bashers and the reporters. Even some groups didn't expect him to be there. CJ Renato Corona arrived in Quirino Grandstand to sympathized with people however most protestants, if not all, were brave enough to shout "Boo!" and get closer just to babble at him. Through the muddy and busy ambiance, protestants continued their ways of expression about the issue. At the surface of Quirino Grandstand, a life size fiberglass statue of the national hero Jose Rizal was seating, made by Matthius Garcia, an arist from Cavite. According to him, Jose Rizal is wearing black since he was distress of the issue. People were encouraged to sign a petition is scrapping pork barrel by means of million signatures against pork barrel desk. A group named Tambol Bayan was jamming with other people with the famous chant. Cyclists were roaming around wearing the chant, some wore shirts with the chant printed on it - also known as statement shirts - some cyclists used packaging tape. A young girl in a bicycle with her father and brother wore a helmet with a piggy bank on her head with, "Say no to pork" on it. In the middle of Quirino Grandstand, a group of people gathered holding their placards, "Buwis ng Manggagawa, huwag babuyin. Abolish pork barrel." A man, sitting with his friends, was playing his guitar and singing a satirical song. In front of him was his unique way of expressing his stand on the issue. There were Franciscans and sisters who bravely joined the said event. People dressed in different ethnic groups also expressed their sides without having them speaking. Despite the expectations of people to wear white shirts to show solidarity, grief and the willingness to patch up with the Congress, still, it was not the issue here. The importance of the Monday morning last August 26 was to stand as one and let the odds hear what damage has been done, what was lost and what was unexpectedly found. Petition. A million signature for a million people march in abolishing pork barrel. Tambol Bayan sings their hearts out by jamming with other concerned individuals.
